I would like to get married but not live with my spouse. Is this possible in New York?

We would like to keep all of our assets and debts separate and live a couple of miles apart. However I would like to marry him so that in the event of my death, he can inherit my apartment and LIVE in it -- while I can leave it to him, the co-op doesn't permit an inheritor to move into the apartment unless they are a family member.
