I want to be a writer but....?

I'm a writer too and have been asking myself the same questions lately. Even though the recent trend of YA books have been dumbed down, there a still a lot of successful, more adult YA books such as Ellen Hopkins series'. All I can say is to just write what you know and find an agent who shares your interests, they'll help you appeal to the right audience.
