Is it idealistic of me to want to pursue a career in creative writing?

Creative writing has always been my passion, and when I get to college I'd also like to study philosophy, mythology and folklore, linguistics, and slew of other subjects that have a reputation of being for stoners and slackers. Is it idealistic of me to think that I can actually make a successful career writing for television? If so, what other, more stable careers might my interests also be applicable to? Thanks.
